Lapbooks
|
Lapbooks can be an extremely useful learning tool for children, and can work extremely well for those that use unit studies as their learning method. Remember the times in childhood when you had to make a poster about a specific topic, and how much more interesting it was than having to sit there listening to a teacher drone on about information that you just didn’t have any interest in absorbing. Well a lapbook is a little like those posters, in interest anyway. A lapbook is far more interesting learning project than those single layer posters, another great thing is that they are far more portable that a project sheet.
Lapbooks are a completely interactive device even after they are complete, it’s not unusual for kids to pull out old Lapbooks they have completed in the past and re-read the information they had previously compiled just for fun. These portfolios of information are created by the child/person collecting all the information of interest on a given subject and presenting it creatively in a standard cardboard folder. The information contained in these Lapbooks can be presented in any way that the creator desires including Flaps, mini-books, pictures , interactive wheels, stories or basically anything else you would like. On this page I will add links to some websites where you can find more information and templates to help your make your own lapbook. Check out our unit study and Freebies pages for more subject specific lapbooking components and links.
